Forestown Executive Search: 2026 China Manufacturing Industry Salary Report

Forestown Executive Search: 2026 China Manufacturing Industry Salary Report

In 2026, China’s manufacturing sector as a whole will exhibit a pronounced wage polarization: the pay gap between traditional manufacturing and high-end intelligent manufacturing, as well as between generalist roles and core technical positions, will continue to widen. The industry’s average annual salary is approximately RMB 101,000, representing a year-on-year increase of 3.9%. Overall compensation levels are influenced by multiple factors, including city tier, job type, work experience, and technical expertise. These findings are based on comprehensive data from Zhaopin, Liepin, ManpowerGroup, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security’s first-quarter 2026 industry survey, covering major manufacturing clusters and mainstream job roles nationwide.

Forestown Executive Search: 2026 China Manufacturing Industry Salary Report

I. Salaries for Entry-Level Positions in Traditional Manufacturing (General Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Light Industry)

The national average monthly salary for entry-level manufacturing workers is approximately RMB 6,500–6,700, with 87.5% of positions falling within the RMB 4,500–8,000 per month range. After factoring in overtime pay, full-attendance bonuses, and other comprehensive allowances, the monthly salary for skilled technicians can reach RMB 7,500–9,000. In 2025, wages are expected to decline slightly by 3% compared with 2024, primarily due to automation replacing labor and the relocation of low-end production capacity.

For entry-level general workers, the starting monthly salary is approximately RMB 5,100; for those with 1–3 years of experience, the monthly salary is around RMB 6,000; for 3–5 years of experience, it’s about RMB 6,500–6,600; and for senior general workers with 5–10 years of experience, the monthly salary is roughly RMB 6,800–6,900. The rate of salary growth gradually slows as years of service increase.

Among entry-level functional roles, quality engineers earn a monthly salary of RMB 9,000–16,200, equipment engineers RMB 9,600–17,700, and process engineers RMB 11,100–18,200. Production supervisors command an annual salary of RMB 140,000–270,000, while procurement managers receive a monthly salary of RMB 13,100–20,100. In terms of regional differences, positions in first-tier cities typically command a 15%–25% premium compared with similar roles in second-tier cities.

II. Salaries for Core Positions in High-End Manufacturing/Smart Manufacturing

By 2026, smart manufacturing, industrial automation, and new-energy equipment will emerge as the highest-paying segments in the manufacturing sector, with core-tech roles commanding a salary premium of more than 50% over traditional positions and multidisciplinary talent commanding a premium of 30% to 60%.
